Minnesota guard Anthony Edwards will miss several weeks while recovering from an arthroscopic procedure on his right knee, a person with knowledge of the matter told The Associated Press on Tuesday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Timberwolves had not announced any plan publicly.
Edwards appeared on injury reports with a right knee issue, though the Timberwolves did not specify the problem. The team had listed him as questionable for Wednesday's game against Golden State before the decision was made to proceed with the procedure.
Edwards has averaged 33.3 points across four games this season, leading Minnesota to a 3-1 start. He scored 45 points in the season-opening win at Miami, then put up 47 points in Monday night's loss to Cleveland.
A two-month absence would extend to Minnesota's Christmas game against Oklahoma City and would cover roughly 25 games. That would leave Edwards short of the NBA's 65-game threshold for end-of-season awards, including the All-NBA team and MVP. Edwards played 61 games last season, a total limited mostly by knee issues.
