Aaron Ashby, a left-hander for the Milwaukee Brewers, surpassed a 10-year-old Major League Baseball record on Tuesday night in St. Petersburg, Fla. The pitcher worked a scoreless ninth inning to end the regular nine frames of Game 4 against the Tampa Bay Rays.
Ashby extended his streak through a perfect 10th inning. He retired the first batter he faced in the bottom of the 11th before being removed. At that point, the Brewers trailed 2-2. He had not allowed a run in 18 consecutive innings across nine postseason appearances.
The previous record belonged to Andrew Miller, who threw 16 consecutive scoreless relief innings during the 2016 postseason for the Cleveland Guardians. Ashby’s current streak includes his regular season performance, totaling 22 2/3 scoreless innings. During the regular season, he posted a 3.12 earned run average in 71 relief appearances.
This marks a sharp improvement for Ashby, who struggled in previous October appearances. In 2021, 2024, and 2025, he allowed nine runs, eight of them earned, in 9 1/3 innings over 10 outings. In this postseason, he has allowed five hits and walked three batters while striking out 20 opponents.
The Brewers entered the 11th inning leading the best-of-seven series 3-0. A victory in Game 4 would secure the first World Series title in franchise history. The team’s bullpen has allowed only eight earned runs over 61 innings in this postseason.
